Private or semi-private tuition is given using our small team of horses and ponies, specially selected to suit complete beginners or more competent, confident riders. We also train grassroots and leisure riders who wish to bring their own horse or pony. There is no minimum age.
All lessons are taught by the centre’s owner, Helen Self. Helen has ridden and produced competition horses for 30 years. She has competed at the British Championships as well as at numerous international three day events. Since opening the centre last year she has helped many adults regain their confidence and taught many young children to ride competently on the centres horses and ponies. She is a qualified UKCC Level 2 Equestrian Coach with British Horse Society (BHS), Equine specific First Aid & Child Protection qualifications.
A great alternative to traditional lessons, pony packages introduce your child to the experience of caring for their pony in addition to private tuition. The session is split between riding and pony care where elements of stable management such as correctly leading and tying up, feeding and signs of good health are introduced.
Saturday Pony Mornings
Saturday mornings are never quiet at Redesdale Equestrian! For three hours children from 5 to 12 years can really get their hands dirty whilst learning to care for the ponies, improving their riding skills and gaining confidence. Our weekly pony morning includes an hour of riding, with the rest of the time used to learn stable management skills such as mucking out, grooming, feeding, plaiting and tacking up. For regular attendees our Pony Academy programme offers structured and progressive training where each level is rewarded with a rosette and certificate.
We sometimes run extra mornings during school holidays and always celebrate special holidays like Easter and Christmas, so check out this website and our Facebook page to see what’s on.
Anyone is welcome (minimum age 5) and we’re happy to welcome holidaymakers for one-off visits.
The morning runs from 9am to 12pm. Your child will need a packed lunch, a long sleeved top and trousers and smooth soled boots with a flat heel. We can provide hats and body protectors if your child doesn’t have their own.
Our parties are individually tailored to create a special event for your child and are organised according to the level of experience of the children. They can include picnic hacks, mounted games, party games, pony quizzes and party tea and cake. We are flexible and aim to meet your suggestions or requests.
